Automatic Train Supervision [ATS] Simulator

Automatic Train Supervision [ATS] refers to a system within a CATC (Continuous Automatic Train Control) system, which monitors the system status and provides the appropriate controls to direct the operation of trains in order to maintain intended traffic patterns and minimize the effect of train delays on the operating schedule. This system automatically monitors the entire signalling system and directs the train running to provide scheduled service under normal circumstances. It not only facilitates the monitoring of train operations centrally but also facilitates local control from the station if situation so warrants. The Academy has installed ATS simulators for hands on training for Traffic Controllers, Station Controllers, Depot Controllers & Signalling Staff who are responsible for operations and maintenance of train control system. The Academy has a total of five ATS Simulators available for Non - CBTC system of Alstom, Siemens and Bombardier & CBTC system of Nippon & Bombardier signalling system. The primary objective of this simulator is to educate and train the DMRC personnel to enhance their skillset in the operation of Automatic Train Supervision System. ATS simulator is an approximate imitation of the operational ATS system being used in running lines of Delhi Metro Rail Corp. Ltd. This simulator is a well-defined description of the simulated Signalling equipment such as Track circuit, Point, Signal and Train etc., and represents their key characteristics, behaviour and functions.

Advantages of ATS Simulator System:

  • Simulation can be used when the real system cannot be engaged, because it may not be accessible, or it may be dangerous or unacceptable to engage.
  • Familiarise the trainees with their role during normal circumstances.
  • Acquaint the trainees with the decision-making process in situations of uncertainty and in the presence of confused and inaccurate information.
  • Offer an opportunity to participate in the teaching-learning process based on Hands on Practice approach.
  • It is essentially a dynamic technique, which is based on changing situations and requires flexibility in thought and response, which must be adapted to whatever circumstances exist at a given time.
  • Training activities does not have any impact on the online traffic as it is completely an offline system.

NIPPON SYSTEM SIMULATOR

The Academy has already 03 ATS Simulators available each for Alstom, Siemens and Bombardier System. Now Nippon Signalling Systems (CBTC) ATS simulator has been commissioned in DMRA, Block-A to cater for hands on training of staff of line-8 in UTO environment.

Some of the salient features of Nippon Simulator are:-

1. Display of Virtual signals, Emergency signals on Simulator MMI.

2. Executions of interlocking commands and their real time output.

3. Simulation of Train movement in UTO and ATO modes.

4. Train simulation in time table mode with more than one train.

5. Imposing and releasing of Temporary Speed Restriction (TSR).

6. Appling Emergency mode in a section and making route in emergency mode.
